Dan’s Delights 3/17-23

There’s a song I love by A Great Big World called “Where Does the Time Go”. As I sit here looking out on the valley carved out by the Laoille Glaicer in Lamoille Canyon, Nevada it plays adding to mother natures soundtrack of a gentle breeze and the riffling creek that carved out the other part of this valley. The lyrics to this song read:

Where does the time go

I don’t want this to end

Where does the time go

Lets hang on to the moment we’re in

Of all the things we will remember

The good the bad and all the blessings in disguise

This day will stick with me forever

Even if we have to say goodbye

Where does the time go

I keep losing track

Where does the time go

We’re to young to get lost looking back

Life doesn’t always give us answers

some dots wont they wont connect until the years go by

If were not meant to be together

Someday we’ll know the reasons why

Of all the things we will remember

The good the bad and all the blessings in disguise

This day will stick with me forever

Even if we have to say goodbye

Where does the time go

I don’t want this to end

Where does the time go

Lets hang on to the moment we’re in

Today I started my drive westward away from Salt Lake City. A place that I have been blessed to call home for the past few months. Filled with new friends and now a bundle of old memories I had a few tears as the city skyline faded from view. I know I’ll be back soon (I’ll return for one night in about two weeks after a ridiculous adventure) but that doesn’t mean leaving is any easier.

I’m thankful for my writing of delights of the past few months. It will be great to have all these to look back as I grow.

So onward I go to this last delights.

Monday I woke up early by happenstance. It was my final day in Colorado Springs and I felt blessed to see such a beautiful sunrise

Watching that sunrise, something told me it may be my last time there for some time and it felt fitting to have such a beautiful send off. Also, thank you to Ethan who even as sick as he was, took me to the bus station so I could look like the most ragged man there.

That night, I got to enjoy dinner with my dear dear friend Megan and her housemates. They each brought such joy to the different conversations I got to have with them and it was lovely to be in a house full of such love and adventure spirit.

Tuesday I flew back to SLC and got to see Harrison again. Like two brothers reuniting the chaos ensued immediately and carried over to our loveliest of Tuesday traditions Bingo. To all the people who showed up, you made this last bingo for me the most joyous one.

Also we went sledding before bingo and used a kayak. Haha that was one of the best ideas we have had recently.

Wednesday I enjoyed some runs that were relaxing reminders of how it feels to move so freely and the night capped off with a seeing Hans Zimmer in concert at the movie theater. Hans is a great inspiration to Harrison and it was lovely to see him delight in some of his favorite music on the big screen.

Oh and our Costco Hot Dog dinner before the show filled with the judging of peoples Costco carts. FYI if you buy bottled water, you automatically get a 0.

Thursday I woke up bright and early to take Harrison to the airport, in those early hours I also received a text message that was a bit of a day turn upsidedowner. So my thankfulness for Thursday is all the community that was there to support me. Thank you for the remimders through your actions, I am not alone. Excited to see some of you soon.

Friday I got to hangout with my friend Kam and we just were total holligans around downtown SLC. We found this little red plush ball that was perfect for playing games of rock in hole. There also was just such fun graffiti and street art around town.

Saturday was a relaxing day for me. Gentle runs, reading some books and watching a movie recommend by a friend. I ended the day with a trip down south to watch Real Salt Lake take on FC Dallas. With no real stake for either team, I just hoped both teams had fun. And I’m not sure they did. 11 total yellow cards, 1 red card and a lot of angry behaviors led to a raucous game. The game ended with a FC Dallas win 1-0. But I must say the energy in the stadium after the Real Salt Lake goal keeped saved a penalty in the first half to keep it 0-0 was electricifying. That’s why I love going to games.

Then Sunday I got to spend my final day in town with my friend Kam going to Antelope Island and seeing the Great Salt Lake in person. It’s always fun to adventure in places with my friends who feed into the chaotic behaviors as much as I do. We go to see so many things including: Some squishy moss, a cool rock cave (if we were ants), a blacktailed jackrabbit, bison, THE GREAT SALT LAKE, some really cute dogs, and even a great sand patch that was so soft on the feet to walk across.

A lovely way to spend the day that concluded with me enjoying a beer while watching the sunset in one of my favorite spots in the city. Sugar House Park.

Ahh so many things have made the past 2.5 months a joy. I can’t believe how fast it has felt to have it all pass and yet, I know I have done almost everything I can to be fully present in these times. I would love to hear from you about some of the delights of your week or what you are looking forward to in the coming week. Til i return and see some of these beautiful people and places again, I’ll carry these photographs saying as Amy Krause Rosenthal said “I was here you see. I was.”

With Great Love

Dan
